This thread discusses the Content article: Rechargeable Batteries guide

Hey - great article, B&B! Thanks for that.

I have the 15 Minute Varta - did not know about the 100 charge life-span though! Will keeep and eye on them. My charger came with two sets of AA batteries - Lost 1 set & replaced them with some other brand - seem to charge OK though.

The Varta charger is also noisy - but only for 15 minutes - Ha! So I don't put it on just before zzz time. But as you said, the convenience is great. I also have a car adapter for it - that and the 15 minute re-charge made it a "must have" for my gadget ensemble (Or EBA's - Essential Business Accessories - as I prefer to call them).

GC.

Hey GenCuster,
let us know about these Vartas - my dad has it and it's great, but he did complain of losing capacity pretty quickly.
We're more than happy to edit and update the guide with anyone's comments )))

I've been using PowerEx Batteries from Ian Jenkins in my 60csx
http://www.ecobatteries.co.nz/mahabatteryaa2700.html and get two days of use per charge. I'd recommend these batteries to anyone

I also made the mistake of buying some 3900mAh of trademe and found they were not getting anywhere near their rated capacity no matter how careful I charged them. A total waste of time and money.

I have quite a collection of NiMh batteries.
I charged up 2 Powerex batteries before saturday's event-2200 rating and I was lucky if they lasted 4 hrs. !!!!!! Managed 4 wp in the event multi. This however was in the new Garmin Colorado 300. I have heard reports tyhey are heavy on batteries. But good grief 4 hrs.

Quick note: I deleted some posts as they were duplicated - not sure why. Cheers, GC.

I always find the batteris never get a chance to run out - I run out of batteries first (a bit like socks...).
We were using some energizer 2500 in the old garmin and another dark blue brand I cant rememeber - they were reasonably expensive and came with own charger, but they lasted years through cameras with a really good life, but now alas with a mismatched pair left, the lesson is dont mix them, you are reduced to the lowest common denominator. It would seem within reason you get what you pay for.
I did upgrade the more specialised battery in my PDA with a higher mA rating out of America and the results were stunning - so long as you can brave the internal challenge replacing these things. Fairly economical as well - including its own tools for the job. Hadny when you run the GPS on it with a booster aerial plugged in for trees.
