Pinetree & Sunrise and GenCuster are hosting the Plimmerton Domain BBQ on Saturday 17th Feb 2007, under the Kiwicaching profile.
The event runs from 11am. BBQ and temporary caches, puzzles and Travel Bugs / Coins for display or moving on. If the US Postal Service works OK this month, I should have some new (and rare) geocoins to show. 'Discovery' is entirely optional.
Please bring your own food, chairs etc as desired. We will have a marque, table, BBQ, plastic plates, utensils and glasses (plastics?). If anybody else can provide a BBQ, please let us know (email or log on the event?).
Porirua City Council are also holding the Porirua Family Wheels Day that day, starting anytime between 1 and 3:30pm - also at the domain. Key 'wheels' into the search box on their web site for further information. It is free, sounds fun, and is being run quite independently from our event. Sounds a good excuse to bring a bike!
However, and here is the cool bit as far as Geocaching being recognised by Authorities in New Zealand!
We have been asked by the Porirua City Council to help the public
| Quote: | | find out more about the recreational GPS sport of Geocaching | so we are asking for anyone who is keen to assist us in doing exactly that.
Be friendly, show off your GPS (but hold on to it! ), guide folk to our temporary caches - one of them will be a code-wheel puzzle - and generally be positive and upbeat. We will have flyers and we will have a laptop 'live' to the Internet as well.
It will be interesting to see what sort of press coverage the sport will get out of this. It has been positive over the last year with both radio and TV interviews. (Well done to those concerned too!)
Please note that the above request is entirely optional and is separate to our organised Geocaching Event. This is in line with the Geocaching Listing Requirements for Event Caches. If you would like to assist, please contact either of us directly (eg: outside both the forum and the event logs).
Many Thanks - and we hope to see lots of new and familiar faces.
