Kiwicaching was started as a result of discussions between Geocachers about the lack of a community based support structure in New Zealand. While recognising that Cachers are a group of eclectic individuals, it was also recognised that many Internet users (including Cachers) are not in favour of Forum based web sites due to the well recognised potential for overly critical responses (whether intended or not) to 'newbies' by other forum users. There is also the realisation that not all Internet users are comfortable having to search forums forinformation and that there are alternatives to presenting and locating information. Geocachers - like other Internet users - also like to be able to share experiences, learn from others, brag a little and generally communicate with their peers. It is intended that Kiwicaching provide the atmosphere and the potential for Kiwicachers to interact. To that end, Kiwicaching provides its members with galleries for photos, interactive web chat, private mesaging, news and articles and of course the aforementioned forums as a means to discuss the news / articles as well as any other topics that may be of interest. Kiwicaching also organises events: Social interactions where real Cachers meet other Cachers: CITO - Cache In Trash Out - where Cachers put something back into the Community that we use for our sport by helping keep it clean. Have a look at Plimmerton Domain BBQ and Pristine Porirua Cache In Trash Out. Kiwicaching is intended to forge and maintain relationships with other like minded Societies, Associations, Land Owners, Environmental / Educational Groups and Local / Central Government Bodies to both promote Geocaching and provide guidelines for our co-existance. Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts)
