This past weekend provided a frenzy of activity around caches in Mid Canterbury. It was all based around a Jeep Geocoin race, which involved the four local active cachers. Each "Team" has their own colour "Jeep" which was randomly selected by the use of a short multi micro hunt in the local domain two weeks ago.
So what are the rules? Well this race was inspired by the "Premier Geocoin Race" which is currently under way in the US, which has 140 racers! The Ash Vegas race only has eight entrants and the rules are simple "The Most Caches Visited" and "The Most Miles Traveled", during the 12 month duration of the race. It was decided that eache "Team" was to place at least one new cache for their racers to start from, and this cache was "Out Of Bounds" to the locals for 14 days, allowing time for other Canterbury cachers to chase the FTFs. All of the cachers had prepared their caches and submitted to "Zero Gravatis" for pre approving, this meant that between 7.30-8.00pm last Friday 6 new caches were published in Mid Canterbury! The Race Was On! All information including links to the cachers and their compittors can be found on the "Great Ashvegas Coin Race" home page; http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/elms/avrace.html This site is updated regularly to keep everyone informed of how the race is progressing. So have a look, add the racers to your watch list and keep an eye out to see if they pass your way, you may even be able to help out by moving the coins. If this race turns out to be a success then there is talk of next year having another race and opening up the entries to others cachers from the wider community. Discuss this article on the forums.
