Following the success of the Unite for Diabetes Campaign, the General Assembly of the United Nations passed a landmark Resolution in December 2006 recognising diabetes as a chronic, debilitation and costly disease. The Resolution designated the existing World Diabetes Day - 14th November - as a United Nations Day as of 2007. To commemorate the first World Diabetes Day, limited edition Geocoins were made available around the world. Following the success of the campaign and requests from many participants to purchase these geocoins, 1,500 limited edition 2007 commemorative World Diabetes Day Geocoins are now being made available for purchase. Unlike the originally distributed Geocoins, these coins are unactivated and may be activated by the purchaser. These are unique collectors item's commemorating the first World Diabetes Day.
